Of course His Grace is sufficient for life and godliness.  But, I think He has blessed us in the West with ample time and resources, that we might each become mini scholars. While the call to consuming media, and pursuing enjoyment is great, I think it more profitable to expand our study of God’s Word to include all the intellectual disciplines.  Of course with the overall goal of allowing the Word to speak to each of those disciplines.  Sola Scriptura had it’s place, but we have a wealth of knowledge in tradition and history which should be mined.  Even the secular city can be pillaged and it’s riches hauled off to be appropriated for the work of the Gospel.   This was the Medieval way, it has been much forgotten but I seek to emulate Lewis, Tolkien, Chesterton and Belloc as their love has kept much of it alive.
