In response to this.

At some point calling everyone who disagrees with you a racist has to get old.  Millennials, try to resist. And prepare to be microagressed, by an aberration to your government education. Columbus was Awesome!

Have you ever read what Columbus actually wrote?  His journal is readily available in English.  He clearly states that he wanted to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  At another time when the Muhammedans were threatening Europe, he sought a route to the East bypassing them, as well as gold to defend Christendom.  Of course you would probably just call him a liar and a racist.  But then you have to call thousands of people liars.  From the man who penned our first national Anthem ‘Hail Columbia”  to the people who named Columbia University, Columbia Pictures, CBS and The District of Columbia.  Not to mention the millions who have celebrated Columbus, from the unofficial reverence for the bold explorer, to the official holiday.

How is it that Columbus is now blamed for every sin committed in North and I assume South America since 1492?  Why isn’t he responsible for every good?  That’s how the optimists of old saw it.   Fair Columbia is still the greatest place on earth because we have upheld the Christian spirit of Columbus, which is why the indigenous are leaving their indigence and flocking here.

It’s easy to sit in comfy America and complain about the past.  It’s difficult to sail into the unknown on a little wooden ship.  But Columbus took the great risk, and changed the world.  If you are so concerned about genocide why don’t you get up and go fight ISIS?  A “Native American” defeat of ISIS might actually be worth a holiday.

You should be more offended by the word ‘holiday’, from the word ‘holy’ via the Catholics. Which makes it evil, right?  Wait, can you say evil?  Who defines evil? Apparently our non-native City Commission.

FDR said: “Columbus is the symbol of the soul in search of knowledge.”  So search for knowledge instead of name-calling.
